Sailor Moon Magazine Stand

Oh.my.effing.God.

Wow!...just... WOOOOOWWW!!!!!

Ever since I dipped my feet in the Tumblr culture,  I've been constantly surprised at the fast pace and quality of information that bloggers there have. The SMObss Tumblr is basically a collection of favorite posts, no new contributions from my part, sadly. However, there are a few blogs out there creating awesome stuff, sharing incredible finds and spreading the word about SM, like Mary!!

She has one of the bestestest Sailor Moon Tumblrs. BY FAR. She created these lovely magazine covers which I think we can all agree are PERFECT matches (I'm sooo digging Vogue Japan). And if you read some of these, OMG!!!!

- "I could've destroyed the world"
- FREE BROOCH! (OMGWANT!!!)
- Pluto finally speaks out!  (HHAaahaha)
- TOTALLY NOT COUSINS!!!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHahahaha!! SRSLY, WHY AREN'T THEY REAL!?! WHY?! Not only are these beautifully rendered, they're spot on and HILLARIOUS! Mary also created a series of "Keep Calm" images, a meme that has been going on at Tumblr inspired by the British "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster. Plus she started another series of vintage-inspired comic books w/ SM characters on the covers... YOU NEED TO CHECK THEM OUT HERE.

Mary was the Moonie who has that AWESOME SM Room of Doom, so we can all agree she is a model Moonie. X333!! Visit the Fyeahsailormoon Tumblr for high quality pics and EVEN MORE awesome stuff!

Italian Merch Overview.

Hello Moonsters!

As you might know, the SMObss isn't exactly a news source for what is *currently* going on in the anime industry, it doesn't follow news behind licensing and distribution of the manga or anime, it doesn't follow the actors or the creators' activities and it's not exactly a place to learn about the future of the series. The SMObss is more like an "interesting finds" collection of the Moon fandom and occasional official happenings. However, I do think this wave of new products and merchandise that is happening in Italy right now is SOOOOO epic, I can't just let it slide!! These items are just exploding with color and cuteness, not to mention they are completely NEW OFFICIAL products. We haven't had new stuff for about 6 years, so it's really exciting!

So this post is basically a REPOST and summary of the Sailor Moon World Italy blog, they are THE BEST source for all things related to the re-transmission of the anime, new SM merchandise in Italy and they also report on Toei news from time to time. NONE of these pictures belong to me, I just found it visually easier to gather all items in a single post to know what we're hunting for.  ;)

So what new goodies are out there? Well, lets start with:

Manga Reprints:

Anime DVDs:

Puzzles:

Stickers:

Coloring Books:

Magazine (with school supplies set) :

Costume set w/wig :

Dolls:

Role playing items:

Clothing line:

As you can see, there are A LOT of new articles in the market, plus they MIGHT also get a reprint of the Artbooks, and anime comic books are planned to be released sometime in 2011. A GREAT time to be a Moonie in Italy.

To see MORE photos of products and links for shopping, visit Sailor Moon World Italy blog, or follow them on Twitter, they constantly update and their information is always RIGHT ON.

Happy Hunting Moonies! :)

SM Cola. Volume 7 - Old trash...Or is it?

Ooooh! Long-time, no-SM Cola post! If you're not familiar with these kind of posts, they're basically for things that are kind of WTF-ish, fun, random or not really related to Sailor Moon, although, in today's post, it totally is related.

A few years ago, I was (as usual) browsing through Ebay, looking around the cheap area and found a large lot of "gently used" Sailor Moon goodies. The whole thing was like 10-15 dollars (can't really remember since it was like four years ago), so I thought it was worth it. The description specified what kind of objects I would get: A few sticker sheets, cards, letter head sheets, envelopes, a watch, keychains, a small note pad a coloring book, and other loose things. Seemed like a fair deal so I bought it.

When I opened the box, I was kind of saddened –and a little pissed– to discover some of these things were actually UNUSABLE. The watch was beyond repair, some cards were wrinkled and ripped, the envelopes were actually just empty containers for bamboo wall scrolls or collectible cards, the sheets of paper were wrinkled, the note pad had most sheets torn off, coloring book was scribbled and so on. Srsly, I thought this was some kind of joke, like someone said: "OH LOOK! I can totally get money from this trash I was going to throw away! The idiot will even pay for me to send it over! MWAHAHA!!". Alas! Cycyn was the idiot who ended up buying the trash.

Translation: Empty envelopes, torn sheets

So what do I do? Put it in a box and never lay eyes upon it again.

....

Four years later, said box is opened.

Alright, so maybe I was a little pissed and didn't take much time to see what *good* things I had gotten. I did recieve a few keychains, some ADORABLE German dress-up sticker sets (I will talk about them later), a few loose cards in good condition, and I guess the watch might be repairable, so it wasn't as bad as I originally thought. But what made me TOTALLY smile and crack up are some cutouts that I have no idea where they came from. I'm guessing they were part of some kind of wrapping paper or from an illustration book. Who knows, but this is how they look like in the back.

But see, they're totally awesome! And by awesome, I mean FUNNY!! HAHAHAHAHahaha. XDDD!
Okay so, they're Neo-Queen Serenity. I'm deducing this 'cause of the length of Usagi's hair and the Moon emblem on her forehead, plus, the very first one is a given. Except for that scarf/pashmina thing around her neck (nice, elegant touch by the way) everything seems normal.

But then we have these deviations from canon that are... well, interesting. I mean, I can totally see Neo-Queen Serenity wearing these dresses. The first one, a sparkly golden gown with long delicate gloves, and semi transparent shawl, the moon pin holding it shut is nice and refined. The second one gets a bit weird. The chest bow as a Senshi reference, the skirt is kinda tacky, but then the purse.... wait, is that a purse at all? A top? A pillow? A giant candy? What is that?  It's PRINTED on there, so it's not a removable object. This was clearly part of the design... so WHAT IS THAT? Did she pull this off someone else's dress? D:

But then we get to the funniest/weirdest piece of them all: Wait for it...WAAAAIT FOOOR IT:

HIPPIE NEO-QUEEN SERENITY!!

HAHAhaha!! She TOOOOOTALLY stands for LOVE and PEACE, DuuUUuude.

Here they are all together so you can compare them side my side.

Anyway, a fun discovery. Where do you guys think these are from? Any ideas? and what about the purse/shirt/candy thing? Any guesses as to what it might be? Speculate away!

Muggs, Munnies and Dunnies

Via Wiki:

" Mighty Muggs are a vinyl–plastic collectible toy series made by Hasbro. The toys resemble super deformed versions of characters from the following franchises: Star Wars, Marvel Comics, Indiana Jones, G.I. Joe, and Transformers. There is a line of smaller figures, called Mini Muggs, as well as blank Mighty Muggs for customization."

Well, mighty Muggs are.... alright I guess. They're highly appreciated by those who collect StarWars limited edition figures or those who collect differnt kinds of Muggs themselves, like THIS GUY (That collection is awesome!). Thing is, we Moonies like pretty/kawaii stuff, and these figures look kind of butch. Two years ago this Mugg was up on Ebay, and used it to make the blog's very fist "The Price is almost Right" game. I was so sure it would be immediately sold, what with Sailor Moon and Muggs both being such coveted franchises and all, but the guesses whether it would be bid on or not all pointed to it not selling because it was "UGLY", and they were right, no bids on it were placed. It's just something about her face, or the position. It reminds more of a female WWE wrestler than the slim, cutesy, pretty guardian we all love, right?

Artist unknown, found on THIS thread.

Apparently, this kind of customizable dolls is a huge thing! I browsed around to find photos and there are a TON of customized figures. It's like a blank canvas to create a fan sculpture of your favorite action hero or your own character. The kinds of blank figures I'm most familiar with are the Muggs, Munnies and the Dunnies, but I'm sure there are plenty of other kinds of customizable toys too. These are about 8-10 inches and vary in details, like the ears, the head shape or body proportion, some make for adorable chibi figures, and others are just "okay-ish", but the ones posted are extra cute!! The artists have all invested much time and love into these. Impressive! O.O!

What do you guys think?? Still feel they're kinda ugly? Do these artists improve on the "blank canvas"?
Which ones are better? Muggs, Munnies or Dunnies??

Lemme know what you think! :D

If you're interested you can buy your own blank Munnies HERE. Send pics if you do one! :D
