September 13th finally arrived and with it, brought in a wave of Moonie awesomeness! We finally have the long-awaited Sailor Moon and Sailor V mangas! When we recorded this, I hadn't received my copies yet, however, our friends Eku, Brad, Dan and Elly weigh in the pros and cons of this new version. We also have a little chat about new Hot Topic and GEAnimation goods, a little bit of PGSM as well. We are in exciting times Moonies! It's absolutely amazing we are part of this Sailor Moon revival movement! So grab a cup of tea and cookies and ENJOY!
It is very enjoyable to look at what other Moonies produce as works of inspired art. On the SMObss Tumblr there is a lot of drawings from Pixiv and DeviantArt. On the blog itself, I like to feature my favorite traditional artists as well as give other unconventional and creative approaches some exposure.
But as a Moonie-slash-artist, I create a bunch of stuff too! I'm sure you're aware of the illustrations I post on twitter, the occasional wallpapers I post here and all the behind-the-scenes stuff I do.
This time, I've decided to make a plushie. YAY! PLUSHIES! It's not my first time doing plushies though, I used to LOVE making 'em when at a younger age, but this doesn't mean I was any good at it, which is why I stopped wasting materials. Now, I've regained an interest for it. As an owner to a growing Sailor Moon collection that includes all kinds and shapes of plushies both official and handmade ones, I can really appreciate the work that goes into making them. It was time to try my own hand at it!!
Here's is the backside, where you can actually see my nasty-nasty stitching :B
Super Sailor Moon is my favorite Usagi form (I also draw it a lot) so I had tons of fun doing this particular suit. There are sparkles here, A LOT OF SPARKLES. I knew from the beginning I wanted her to glisten and shine a lot, and I'm pretty happy that she does. I love the way she shimmers in the light! She's this color because I wanted to try out a texture for her skin, but now she looks like a piece of bread or a piece of wheat cereal, which is why I named her:
If there is one thing truly appreciated on the SMObss, that is teh lols. Fanart, fan projects, collections, everything here is appreciated but there are very few things that actually make me laugh out loud and make it enjoyable. Moon-sticks is a good example of this. It's all Sailor Moon centric and still freaking HILARIOUS!! :D
So on that note, I leave you these. #justsayin'. Enjoy! xD!
Sailor Moon for Dummies(#lolwhut?!)
FACE HURT!!! HAHahah!! My fave!! LOLOLOLOlololololol!!
Once in a while, a Moonie drops me a line about how important Sailor Moon is in their life, or how it has shaped them or helped them through rough times. Sometimes they like to show off their Moonie fan art or send me links to other artists' sites. But very occasionally do I get emails like the this one from Gabriela (aka Hotarutomoechick), a Sailor Moon fan who goes through life Moonwalking... literally. XD!!
I asked Gabby if I could post the pics she sent me here and she said okay, she was even kind enough to send in a description on how she made them! This is her message:
"I would like for all the Moonies out there to bring back Sailor Moon and make their own SM fan art for others to appreciate.
The Process:
The shoes took me one week to finish, I would have drawn more, but it is a long process, so I decided to keep it simple.
-First, I looked for images online and resized them.
-Second, I painted the figures with white acrylic paint on my black Converse.
-Third, I drew the images with pencil on top of the dried white paint.
-Fourth, I outlined the penciled images with black permanent marker (fine tip).
-Fifth, I mixed the acrylic colors and painted the images.
-Lastly I did some final touch-ups and took pictures for others to appreciate my new Sailor Moon Converse.
Image Details:
Here are some details: on the right shoe, I painted Chibi Tuxedo Mask 3.5"x 2" and Luna 2"x 0.5" with red rose petals on the background. On the left shoe I painted, Chibi Sailor Moon 3.5"x 2.5" and Artemis 2"x 0.5" with pink rose petals for the background. On the tongues of the shoe, I painted the Moon Crystal Locket 0.5"x 0.5". I free-handed the rose petals, drew and painted everything on my own. I did not use my own original images though, but I would like to give credit to the following image links that I used to paint on my shoe:
Why Sailor Moon?
I decided to draw on my old black converse women's size 8, because they were too plain and they needed something that I truly loved and will make me want to wear them even more often...and that was Sailor Moon, one of my obsessions next to The Beatles and Mickey Mouse. Unfortunately, I am not selling these shoes nor will they be displayed, but I will be wearing them, not too often though because I do not want them to get dirty nor wear out too soon. I really do encourage everyone to make their own creations whether they are on shoes, bags, or shirts, etc... because when you love something, anything is possible and the outcome will be something that you and others will really appreciate! ^-^
About Me:
I do have a DA, but I seriously haven't uploaded anything on there, and I will get to that when I get the chance. I mostly upload stuff on Facebook and Myspace, but I am considering in joining Flickr and updating my DA so I can share my stuff with everyone. I have been watching Sailor Moon since I was 5 years old and next month I will be 22, and I still love her! I have a mini SM collection, but I am proud of it, and I am hoping to expand it with my own fan art and such, because I know it can get pretty expensive to buy collector's items."
So there you have it Moonies! Step by step, the whole process of making these awesome shoes! We should all start working on our own pairs, wouldn't it be like a fun group project? Well, anyway, I totally dig this pair, SOOOoo cute! I particularly love the little pattern that the sakura petals make, brings the black dullness to life!
Leave Gabby a message about her shoes in the comments! :D
Speechless is the exact word I'm looking for. I think...
I'm speechless so, I guess yeah, that's the word...
oh and there's MOAR! :D a videoooo!!
So, Where do I start with this? I consider Sakky to be a dear friend. I ain't even trying to be nice, it's totally true! We talk occasionally on MSN, but almost every single day on Twitter. We share interesting links, collecting tips, Ebay finds, and whenever I have a chance I enjoy watching her live drawing/sewing videos. I've been wanting to make a "Room of Doom" of her collection for a long time, over a year now, but she kept insisting that she needed to update her pictures, so I waited and waited. But now, IT'S HERE!! WE HAVE HER UPDATED VID AND PICS OF HER COLLECTIOOON! And she even just told me it needs a NEW update now, OMG!! asdfglkjhklhyufgvdewopienfz!!!
Sakky's collection has pretty every item any Sailor Moon collector would want: Mangas, DVDs, Canadian dolls, American toys, Japanese sets, plushies, keychains, both PGSM and anime RPGs! And HELLO INFINITY ARTBOOK!!!!!1!1one
But don't let her mad organizational skillz distract you from all that she really owns! I mean, at first I was all "oh just a few shelves", but once you get a closer look, everything is layered!! I'm know space for displaying her stuff is really limited, so she has had to find ways to store her treasures, and she has accomplished it. What I really like about her stuff is that she collects sets and she won't stop until she completes every piece. :D
Another amazing and completely obsessed Moonie!! Love it! Here is a picture of Sakky's little sister doing exactly what I would do if I ever walked into her home: JUST SIT THERE AND STARE... *0*!!
Here's a link to her DA, where she constantly updates with new pics of her stuff and HERE is her twitter account, follow her!!
